What is your running "origin story?"
I was born into a family of outdoor loving adventurers. Our “family time” usually involved a hike or walk, run or bike ride. Running was just one of our many forms of family time and togetherness. This solidified into family 5K’s and soon I joined cross country and track in high school. I was never the fastest, but had fallen in love with running. This morphed into my first marathon in college, and first ultramarathon in graduate school. Now I hope to inspire a love for running and an active lifestyle in my daughters, the same way it was fostered in me.
Best/worst/funniest memory from a race?
My best, worst, and funniest memory of a race is all one and the same - but actually was not a running race. I was going to race a 54K cross-country skiing race in Wisconsin, the American Birkebeiner, when one of my classmates dared me to ski wearing shorts. I survived (although my knees were frozen; it was 10 degrees F), and even managed to set our collegiate course record!
